The Riedel Foundation honored 26 non-profit organizations in Hannibal that received more than $330,000 in grants in 2022.
At a reception, Riedel Lead Trustee Dr. Michael Bukstein thanked those agencies for what they do to make Hannibal a better place to live.
“The Riedel Foundation can help with funding, but it is the work of these organizations that really makes a difference in improving people’s lives,” Bukstein said.
The majority of grant awards in 2022 helped children in Hannibal. The money provided bike helmets, swim lessons, books for young children, and child abuse counseling. Several programs that help foster children benefited, including a new organization working in Hannibal to help children who are aging out of the foster care system.
Other grants allowed the Hannibal school district to start a new program to train future entrepreneurs and established scholarships. The Riedel Foundation also helped Hannibal LaGrange University in a funding crisis. Grants provided food for the poor and for senior citizens, helped combat homelessness, reduce teen pregnancies, promoted tourism and helped in the effort to spay and neuter animals.
Also in 2022, Riedel grants supported the arts by helping to put on plays, concerts, art shows, lessons for children, and a festival for the community.
