Year-end Riedel Grant to Benefit Three Hannibal Food Pantries

Year end food grants '25

Three local food pantries with the common mission of feeding Hannibal’s hungry will share the bounty of a $27,000 year-end grant from the Riedel Foundation.

Harvest Outreach Ministries, Douglass Community Services, and the Salvation Army of Hannibal will each receive $9,000 in Riedel funds. The money is earmarked for restocking pantries, providing food boxes, and serving meals for Hannibal residents in need.

“Times have been uncertain for people who rely on food aid and grocery prices are up,” said Riedel Foundation Administrator Sarah Deien. “That’s a difficult combination for our most vulnerable residents. The Riedel Trustees looked at our grant awards for 2025, and decided to finish out the year meeting the most basic need of supplying food.”

In addition to the year-end pantry support, Harvest Outreach Ministries received another $25,000 grant at the Foundation’s December meeting. Half of that money will also go toward food boxes and the Loaves and Fishes daily meal program to further combat hunger in Hannibal. The balance will help provide for the Harvest House Sober Living Facilities. Earlier this year, Riedel Trustees awarded another $5,000 to the sober living houses for Hannibal men and women who are battling addiction. That brings the total award to Harvest Outreach in 2025 to $39,000.

The Salvation Army of Hannibal also benefited from a Riedel Foundation grant awarded in October. That money was for Christmas food boxes and to stock the food pantry. Altogether, the Salvation Army received $24,000 in Riedel grants this year.

This summer, Douglass Community Services benefited from an additional $1,000 grant to train volunteers to assist with SNAP benefits at the Hannibal Farmers Market.

The Riedel Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2025. This year, the Riedel Foundation awarded $316,850 in grants that benefit Hannibal residents. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded approximately $7.5 million dollars in grants to non-profit agencies that serve Hannibal.
