Hannibal, MO–Bluff City Theater has received a $5,000 matching grant from the George H. Riedel
Foundation to support its YETI (Youth Education in Theater Initiative) programming for the 2026 season.
The funding will help ensure that all YETI programs remain free of charge, removing financial barriers for
children and teens who want to explore the performing arts.
YETI provides local opportunities for young people to perform, volunteer, and work behind the
scenes—an essential part of Bluff City Theater’s mission to bring high‑quality arts experiences to
underserved communities. Over the past 12 years, nearly 1,000 children and youth have participated in
at least one YETI program, including 75 students last season.
This year, YETI will offer a lineup of age‑appropriate opportunities for youth ages 5 through 19,
including:
• Three summer theater camps
• A musical theater experience
• An end‑of‑summer showcase for family and friends
• A full‑length youth‑run production in late August, guided by a professional director
• An improv and comedy session for older youth.
Following the success of last year’s holiday program, YETI will also repeat its abbreviated Christmas
camp in December 2026.
In 2026, the program will place special emphasis on developing acting skills through short scenes,
monologues, and character work. Rather than producing three separate shows—as done in previous
years—this season’s structure will allow each participant to deepen their skills and apply them in the
culminating showcase performance.
YETI continues to play a vital role in expanding arts access for local students. Approximately one‑third of
participants are home‑schooled and have no other opportunity to engage with live theater. Bluff City
Theater has also strengthened its relationship with area schools by welcoming a local educator to its
board, helping bridge the gap for middle and high school students who perform in school musicals but
often lack formal performance training.
The 2026 season is expected to serve 70–80 youth and reach audiences of up to 500 family members
and friends.
“We are once again grateful for the Riedel Foundation’s support,” said Jayme Brown, Bluff City Theater
Chief Operating Officer. “Their investment ensures that every child—regardless of financial
circumstance—can discover their voice, build confidence, and experience the transformative power of
live theater.”
Bluff City Theater is starting a fundraising campaign to meet the $5,000 Riedel grant match.
