The Riedel Foundation of Hannibal has awarded a $13,900 grant to Harvest Outreach Ministries to help expand their facilities for alcohol and drug addiction.
Harvest Outreach provides sober living facilities for people recovering from addiction. Both the men’s and the women’s units are full, with a waiting list for admission. The group launched an expansion project that will add another seven small apartments for the men’s facility. The Riedel grant will furnish the apartments plus the common spaces including the kitchen and living room.
“This new addition will be a “step up” for those who have been successful in their recovery and designed to be used as an incentive for success,” said Pastor Larry Hinds.
Harvest Outreach Ministries offers support and counseling, and it helps the residents manage finances and find work. In return, the residents are expected to contribute each month for the program.
“Harvest Outreach has helped so many people over the years,” said Riedel Trustee Michael Gaines. “We hope that by furnishing the expansion, we have helped in some small way in seeing this program succeed for many more years.”
The seven apartments in the expanded facility should be filled by the end of the year.
Harvest Outreach Ministries also runs the Loaves and Fishes program in Hannibal. For more than 20 years, Loaves and Fishes has provided hot meals to those in need.
